Just thought that I'd do a bigger journal entry, kind of an update, discussion and feature sort of.
So recently I have managed to overcome my reluctance of doing a proper dragon drawing. This is kind of a big step for me, since while I love dragons, and I used to draw them a lot when I was younger, I stopped drawing them once I realised that I couldn't get them to look like how they did in my head. If you compare this new dragon "Surveyor" to my old old drawing of a fire dragon, I think you can see I've come a long way, and yet you can still spot similarities lol. Mainly its the heads that I was always extremely picky with, they have to be just right, and it was very difficult to get them to look the same on paper as they were in my mind
Also, I'd like to make comparisons to show improvement over the years, more for my own sake than anything.
Here is the first drawing I uploaded to dA!
Drawn on the 29th January 2009! Looking at it now, I can see how its pretty bad xD Extremely flat, little tonal variation and some pretty terrible perspective problems xD As well as some scary anatomy mishaps
And now my latest drawing:
Which I'm quite proud of, there's still plenty of things to improve on however.
Also, I've noticed my developments in digital paintings.
This one being my first "good" painting
Uploaded in December 2010. And comparing that to this latest one
Hopefully I can continue to improve the more I practice, since I really want to get better at environment paintings!
I also wanted to feature a few artists I have stumbled upon recently
First off is
paulsgruff. He has a really awesome and interesting style with coloured pencils! Also good attention to detail and a great colour sense
And of course my best friend
Ookami-Seishin. She has awesome photography work, you can look through all the interesting photos all day
Also
ambient dream. She has beautiful illustrations and a lot of them remind me of some books I read in my child hood.
And finally
Alex Tooth. I love his environment paintings, they are very inspiring
I could probably go on all day featuring people, but you all know there's awesome artists out there, so go have a look and you'll find them
We have had some crazy amounts of snow here, we don't really get much in the UK, usually we get about 2 inches deep if we are lucky and only for a day or two. But this year we have had very heavy snowfall and its been awesome
I also managed to get some snowboarding clothes in preparation of learning once I'm done at University
I built a giant snow snake in the garden, since that particular night the snow wouldn't stick properly so I couldn't make things like snow men lol.
Some friends at Uni made King Kong in the snow, and they actually got featured in the news with it
Anyway, Uni is going fine, I have lots of work to be doing and I'm improving all the time, can't wait to start on my final major project. I'll be making a game level of an alien jungle, since I want to be an environment/creature artist
I need to record some more drawing videos for my youtube channel, I'm a little busy, but I'll see if I can get a new one done soon
Hope everyone is having a good day/week/month
