Curious by Glaiceana Curious by Glaiceana
Digital painting of a frog. I was looking at lots of different photos of poison arrow/dart frogs, so that's where the shape is based, the colours are imaginary. I've always thought that frogs look cute and curious.
I did this mainly as a material/texture test, practising showing off different surface properties (shiny, smooth, wet)

How do you know that he's curious?  He's a frog.  He's making a frog face, doing frog things, and all in all looking like frogs do for 100% of their lives.

True, but its just the impression I get from the stance and eyes. I just thought it would be a better title than just "Frog".

For :iconprojectcomment:

Warning! I may be frank so please don't take this personally.

Honestly, I thought it was legit frog species of exactly that kind of frog when I first saw it, haha! I also thought it was a photograph at first  oops.
The amount of detail on the frog and the leaf is amazing. You certainly used your textures well :)

Some of the solid shines on the frog (the white translucent ones) seem too tapered for my appreciation. I mean, these frogs don't have anything pointed about them so I suggest you round out the ends for a fully realistic effect. I like what you did with the scribble-shines though.

It's a beautifully rendered work. Your practice turned out fruitful

Good luck on your future endeavors! :shamrock:

I think you did a really great job differentiating between the textures of each piece. The "shininess" of the frog was the first thing I noticed in conjunction with the brilliant color scheme.

This is curiously really interesting work. I'm not saying this kind of frog art is not out there, but it's the first time I've come across it.

I want to thank you for sharing this with us. Made me realize how frogs look so plasticey and artificial. If I never seen a frog before, I'd question it's validity haha.

The frog must be very poisonous, with those vivid, bright colors :D The realistic droplets and slick-looking skin add to that so well. Great job on this!

I hope those who view this work take the time to click it & look at the enlarged version. Otherwise they'll miss out on a lot of the work you've taken detail-wise. The water droplets are photo-real, well done. I especially like the head of the frog. The realism is very good & it actually looks wet & slick. Some of the white highlights, I feel, need softened up. Their to random & sharp. Beyond that it's a very nice piece.

Really like the constrast in color, especially the blues. Maybe the lighting on the knee could have been spread out a teensy bit more, but overall the lighting is well placed :]

Wow, this is fantastic! The colors are vivid and eye-catching, the water droplets look fantastic, and the shadows are very good.
The different hues of blue look amazing, especially against the deep green of the leaf as well.

If I had to suggest anything, I'd try to add a bit more shading around the upper right and back two legs. I think it would really make the piece pop!
But other than that, I have nothing to critique. Keep up the good work!

Want that frog! *o*

You really nailed it, improvements, just a little thought. The pink dots surrounded by the light green lines are maybe over saturated. Doesn't look natural for me. Even when this type of frogs have striking colors, still there's a limit of opacity.

Just a little detail, you did an awesome job! :D

This is a very beautiful piece, the colours are vibrant and it stands out wonderfully, however, I feel that if you had perhaps added a little more shadow around the right arm of the frog, a better 3D effect could have been achieved. Overall though, this is way better than I could have achieved on a computer, since I'm a traditional artist ^^
